Mrs. Erin Schovel Turnham

Mrs. Erin Schovel Turnham brings years of professional training in museums to the board, and a passion for community service. She believes that libraries and museums are community hubs that both preserve and promote cultural heritage. She graduated in 2001 with Bachelors degree in Art History and Religious Studies from the University of Alabama. Erin worked as Associate Curator at the Dothan Wiregrass Museum of Art from 2002-2005. She earned her Masters degree in Museum professions from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, where she graduated in 2007. While in New Jersey she worked at the Newark Museum of Art and interned at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Erin returned to Alabama, taught at Troy University and married her husband Chris in 2008. She worked at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts from 2009-2012 and resigned to care for her son who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Erin lives in Pike Road with Chris and their two children, Charlie and Sophia. She is an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Erin serves in several volunteer roles. She is the Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 8 in Pike Road at Grace Episcopal Church, is the Reading Merit Badge Counselor for Scout Troop 8, and she serves with the Woodland Food Pantry at Woodland Methodist Church. She serves on the board of Southeastern Diabetes Education Services which oversees Camp Seale Harris, a camp for children with diabetes. She advocates for people with diabetes via her blog, Sugar Rush Survivors. In the past, Erin served on both the Pike Road Elementary and Pike Road Intermediate PTA, the Friends of the Alabama Governor’s Mansion, and she was a member of the Emerge Torchbearers Leadership Class III.
When needed, Erin shelves books at the Pike Road Branch Library, where she and her children are frequent library patrons. She is honored to be a part of the MCCPL Board to help in the mission for all the residents of Montgomery County. She was appointed to the MCCPL board by the Montgomery County Commission in 2025. Her term ends 6/1/2029.
