Friends of the Library

To strengthen library services

Who are Friends of the Montgomery City-County Public Library?

Friends of the library are people who know that a community with a first rate library is a better place to live.

Friends of the library are important to the City and County of Montgomery.  Montgomery needs a strong library system to help educate our children, provide resources to our businesses, and to meet the growing information needs of the community.  Friends help this happen.

Friends of the Library

Why does the Library need Friends?

In progressive communities, the public library is one of the main cultural and informational centers of the community.   The ideas and voices of individuals are needed to support and promote one of our community's great assets.

What are the purposes of the Friends?

We have four purposes

-To raise funds for the enhancement of public library service.   Tax monies will never go far enough to meet all the needs in our community.  There are many important items that are not included in the library's budget as provided by the City and County.  Friends of the library help to provide funding for these extra services or programs.

-To raise funds for special programs.

As its main special program of the future, the Friends will sponsor a series of speakers.

-To encourage gifts, memorials, and endowments for the benefit of library services.

The Friends accept financial contributions for the purchase of special materials as gifts and memorials. The Friends of the Montgomery City-County Public Library is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.  TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS WORTHY TAX DEDUCTION!

-To assist the library in its public information effort.

Friends support special media campaigns to inform the public about important library related programs.

Membership Information

Membership is $15 for individual and $25 for family, $50 for contributing, $100 for sustaining, and $250 for corporate/sponsor.  Dues are tax deductible.  Complete the Membership envelope available at all the libraries and mail it with your dues.  Indicate on the envelope whether you would like to help with the Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library, a neighborhood branch, the Bookstore, or wherever needed.  If none of these are marked, it indicates your willingness to contribute to library programs with your financial support.  Our address is: Friends of the Montgomery Public Library, P.O. Box 11481, Montgomery, Alabama 36111.

Attend Friends meetings to get to know other members and find out about the needs of your library.

How are the Friends organized?

The Friends are governed by agreed-upon By-Laws.   With two exceptions, there is currently a single Friends group for the entire library system.  The Pintlala Branch Library and Pike Road Branch Library have their own active Friends groups that are separately governed; membership information may be obtained at those branches.
